You Can’t Tell Them What To Do – Arsenal Legend Defends Messi, Ronaldo
Legendary Arsenal player Emmanuel Petit has defended Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, two football greats.
In light of recent criticism of the pair, he spoke up for them.
Over the previous 20 years, Messi, 35, and Ronaldo, 38, have dominated world football and collected numerous championships.
However, the couple has recently faced criticism over their professional choices.
Many have stated that Ronaldo made the incorrect decision to move to the Saudi Pro League and sign with Al Nassr a few months ago, while Messi has come under fire from fans for choosing not to extend his contract with PSG.
But Petit has supported both Messi and Ronaldo, saying that nobody has the right to tell them what to do when their careers are over.
He said that neither Ballon d’Or winner has anything left to prove, therefore they should be free to make whichever choice best them.
“Messi and Ronaldo have lit up football for 20 years,” Petit said to the Rothen s’enflamme newspaper in France.
“You can’t tell these players what to do at the end of their careers, when they have nothing left to prove.”
