Woman Nabbed For Improper Waste Disposal In Lagos, Sentenced To 144 Hours Of Community Service
The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) enforcement squad caught a woman named Rukayat Oderinde and sentenced her to 144 hours of community service for illegally emptying her trash can into a drainage channel.
The arrested woman, who resides at number 17 Hassan Ogumola Street, Ahamadiyya, Lagos, was caught on camera throwing her garbage directly into the drainage channel, which is strictly against state waste management laws and poses a serious risk to the drainage system’s overall cleanliness and functionality.

Ibrahim Odumboni claimed that incorrect waste management, particularly through drainage channels, might result in clogged drains, which in turn caused floods during heavy downpours. He added that this not only interrupted everyday life but also put the community’s safety and health in danger.
“Blockages in drainage systems can cause stagnant water, which serves as a breeding ground for pests and mosquitoes that spread disease. The LAWMA enforcement staff deserves praise for moving swiftly to capture the woman. This highlights our dedication to preserving a clean and safe environment for all citizens.
For breaking waste management laws, the woman was detained and given a 144-hour community service term by the judge. This tragedy serves as a clear warning to locals that improper waste disposal
The environmental offender will start her eight-hour-per-day community work cleaning the environment on the route from Ahmadiyya to Salolo over the course of the following 18 days.
Odumboni reminded the populace that participation was necessary.
