Tragedy As 16 Burnt To Death After Two Vehicles Collide In Osun State
A private vehicle collided with an Ibadan-bound commercial bus at Ode-Omu, Ayeedade Local Government Area of Osun State, causing no less than 16 passengers to be burned to death.
A private Lexus car traveling from Lagos State crashed with the commercial bus near Ode-Omu on Friday, April 28, 2023, at around 5 o’clock.
After the incident, it was discovered that the bus driver had lost control of the wheel, which had caused the car to deviate off the road before summeraulting.
The Nation quoted Sogo, an eyewitness, as saying: “After the commercial vehicle summersaulted, a gas cylinder at the back of the vehicle exploded and razed the bus with passengers inside it.”
16 passengers, including children, were charred to death while being evacuated by the Federal Road Safety Corps and police, according to the former NURTW Chairman Alhaji Kareem Isau in the Ode-Omu branch.
He said, “Four people, including a corps member and a security guard, escaped death. According to one of the survivors, those who were inside the bus reported getting on at the Aregbe motor park.
“The victim reported that a nursing mother and five children were in the cars. We counted 16 passengers when we were evacuating those who had been burned to death in front of law enforcement and traffic safety personnel.
Agnes Ogungbemi, the FRSC’s Osun Command spokesperson, was unable to estimate the number of fatalities but blamed a gas cylinder explosion for the subsequent fire.
No further information is available at this time because the dead have not yet been identified, but the injured have been brought to Ise Oluwa Medical Center Odeomu. One of the trucks was carrying gas, and when it burst, a fire broke out, he said.
