Man allegedly attacks lover with machete for not visiting him on Valentine’s Day after giving her N7,000 to make her hair
A thirty-year-old man named Amber Ubung has been apprehended by the Cross River State Police Command on suspicion of beating his significant other with a machete after she demanded payment from him for hair styling services and failed to appear at his residence on Valentine’s Day, despite her prior assurances to the contrary.
On Thursday, February 22, 2024, CP Gyogon Grimah, the state’s commissioner of police, informed reporters in Calabar that the incident had taken place in the Okuni community within the state’s Ikom Local Government Area.
The Commissioner of Police revealed that the suspect, Amber Ubung, actually attacked his lover, Blessing Onawu, who is 25 years old for reneging on her promise to spend Valentine’s with him, even after he gave her N7,000 for her hair.
He said,
“After waiting and the said lady did not show up, the suspect, Ubung, armed himself with a machete, went to the house of Onawu, attacked and gave her several machete cuts all over her body with the intent to kill her,” the CP stated.
“In an attempt by the victim’s mother to rescue her, he used the same machete to inflict injuries on her.
“A team of policemen were mobilised to the scene, and the suspect was arrested with the machete.
“The suspect was transferred to SCID for further investigation and will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded,”he added.
The commissioner also said that the victim and her mother are receiving treatment in different hospitals.
