Kingmakers appoint Owolabi Olakulehin as next Olubadan of Ibadan
Owolabi Olakulehin has been named the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadan land by the kingmakers of Ibadan.
On Friday, April 12, at a meeting called by Chief Rashidi Ladoja, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, in the capital city of Oyo State, Ibadan, the Olubadan-In-Council decided to name Oba Olakulehin as the next Olubadan.
Oba Gbadamosi Adebimpe, the Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, is said to have nominated him in place of Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, the Otun Balogun, who was supposed to do so.
It was learned that the 1957 proclamation recognised only the high chiefs of Ekerin Balogun and Ekerin Olubadan as the kingmakers, so Ekaarun Olubadan and Ekaarun Balogun were excluded from the decision-making process.
Speaking with newsmen at the meeting, Oba Olakulehin thanked the residents for their prayers and support.
He said, “Thank you all for your support and prayers. Good things will never cease in your homes.”
Also speaking, the convener of the meeting, Ladoja, while fielding questions from newsmen, said, “In this meeting, we have concluded the appointment of the new Olubadan subject to the consent of the governor.
We hope that the governor will give his consent as soon as possible. As soon as he gives his consent, we will pick a date for the coronation. We pray that all of us will be alive to witness the day. Thank you for your endurance.”
