How Soldiers Rescue Woman From Committing Suicide (Read)
According to the Nigerian Army, Mrs. Francesca Spark attempted suicide by plunging into the Lagos lagoon near the 81 Division Officers’ Mess, Marina, but was stopped by soldiers serving under 81 Division.
According to a statement from Lt.-Col Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 81 Division Nigerian Army, Spark was swiftly rescued by troops from 65 Battalion stationed in the officers’ mess.
The medical personnel of the battalion administered first aid to her and stabilised her. She was given to her husband, Mr. Spark Oghene Ovie, who lives in Awoyaya, Lagos, once the situation stabilised, according to the statement.
It stated that Major General Muhammad Takuti Usman, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 81st Division,
Usman, who said such an operation is a military operation other than war conducted during emergencies or natural disasters, affirmed that troops have been trained to support leading agencies during emergencies.
He assured residents of the Army’s commitment to protect them and their properties even during emergencies.
