Erling Haaland Breaks Premier League Record For Most Goals In A Season
Erling Haaland has accomplished a new Premier League milestone.
This comes after he broke the record for the most goals scored in a single Premier League season by scoring his 35th goal of the year for Manchester City against West Ham.
In Wednesday’s 3-0 victory over West Ham, the 22-year-old scored his 35th Premier League goal of the year. Pep Guardiola’s team took the lead thanks to Nathan Ake before Haaland scored his historic goal. At the Etihad Stadium, Phil Foden scored City’s third goal to complete a crucial three-point victory.
No one had ever come close until Haaland showed up at City, breaking the previous records held by Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole for Newcastle and Manchester United, respectively. With five games remaining, the attacker broke the record in dramatic way as Pep Guardiola’s team seeks its sixth championship in six years.
The attacker, who had been set up by Jack Grealish, dinked the ball over the approaching Lukasz Fabianski in an exquisite finish. The Norwegian had been pretty quiet before scoring, but he now displayed his impeccable taste and what he is capable of when given a clear-cut opportunity.
Haaland now has 51 goals overall and 35 in the Premier League, an impressive total for a striker who was cast off by many following several missed opportunities in the Community Shield in July. However, since moving to City for £51 million from Borussia Dortmund, he has proven to be a top-notch acquisition.
Ironically, Haaland’s first City goal came against West Ham in August, and he hasn’t looked back since. On the first day of the season, he scored twice at the London Stadium before adding another 13 goals in his following eight top-flight games to continue his stellar start in England.
He currently holds the record overall and still has five games left to play.
