EPL: Peter Schmeichel Identifies The Culprits Behind Mudryk’s Troubles At Chelsea
Peter Schmeichel, a former goalkeeper for Manchester United, attributed Mykhailo Mudryk’s continued troubles at Chelsea to the team’s locker room.
During the first half of the current 2022–2023 season, Mudryk grabbed attention with ten goals and eight assists in 18 games for Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Ukrainian eventually signed with Chelsea in a deal for up to £89 million after coming close to joining Arsenal in the first two weeks of the January transfer window.
Despite Mudryk’s gift for speed and directness, he has struggled to fit in at Stamford Bridge.
In ten games for Chelsea so far this season, the 22-year-old has only provided one assist, and he has yet to score a goal for the Blues.
Schmeichel stated in a Premier League Productions interview that “a lot of money was spent with no goals. Mudryk was a significant transfer. He was great for Shakhtar when I saw him play there in the Champions League a couple times. Shakhtar, however, plays in a different style and with a different approach.
With this price tag, he entered. He was sort of snatched away from Arsenal at the eleventh hour, and his personality also had a lot of external, non-football problems. It’s a big, major call now to go score goals.
“The Chelsea dressing room doesn’t work,” he continued. There are too many guys there who were lured in on promises, and when they turn around, there are 35 of them, so the environment is not pleasant.
