Edo police arrest two women and three teenage girls who stripped lady naked in viral video over alleged phone theft
Three female suspects have been taken into custody by the Edo State Police Command. The suspects allegedly stole a phone, stripped Christabel Akhigbe nude, videotaped her, and shared the footage on social media.
This was revealed to reporters by State Police Commissioner CP Funsho Adegboye over the weekend while the suspects were being paraded through the Benin City command centre.
According to the Commissioner, the accused were detained for indecent assault and cyberstalking. They included Blessing Lucky, 15, Jennifer Eboigbe, 30, Iziegbe Ogbodu, 39, Naomi Ekhonetomwan, 17, and Lucky Endurance, 16.
The CP claims that the suspects accused Christabel, the victim, of stealing Blessing Lucky’s Android phone and asked her to return it, which she dutifully did.
Adegboye said the women later lured Christabel into a room where they beat and stripped her naked.
They also threatened to apply pepper to her private parts and afterwards made the video go viral on social media.
CP Adegboye said that upon receiving the complaint, police operatives arrested the suspects.
The police boss warned members of the public not to take laws into their own hands, noting that those who would have been the complainants are now suspects in the case.
Adegboye added that the suspects will soon be charged in court.
Speaking with newsmen, one of the suspects, Jennifer Eboigbe, expressed remorse for what they did to the victim.
“My daughter, Blessing, came to me and said that her phone was stolen, and after some days, we retrieved the phone from Christabel. The girl begged me that they shouldn’t beat her but despite my plea, they went ahead and stripped her naked. I am ashamed of what they did because I am a mother,” she said.
