Drama As Couple Plans Self-Kidnap To Raise N5M in Lagos
In Lagos state, a couple was detained for an alleged self-kidnapping for N5 million.
This was confirmed on April 29, 2023, by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Command.
According to Hundeyin, the couple—a 53-year-old technician and a 48-year-old body masseuse and bone setter—were both detained on Wednesday and Thursday after a man’s relatives reported the alleged kidnapping.
According to the pair, who admitted to the crime, they plotted the self-kidnapping in order to obtain N3 million to pay for their house in Lagos’ Badagry neighborhood.
“The husband was sold on the notion by the man. The officers did not hear him dispute it. He claimed he did it by text message for a specific reason. He claimed he did it so he could use N3 million to repurchase his house.
The man claimed he planned his own kidnapping since none of his successful siblings, some of whom live abroad, were ready to help him out financially.
The man, according to the spokesperson, “claimed that if they heard of his kidnapping with his wife, they would negotiate with the kidnappers and pay the money.”
Hundeyin also out that the couple had been abducted while still residing in their Badagry home, and that the wife and three children were present when police arrived at the residence on Tuesday.
According to him, the police asked the woman to accompany them to the Ikeja police headquarters, but she begged them to let her come the next day, on Wednesday, and they agreed.
According to the creator of the image, the wife showed up at the station as she had promised and was detained for self-kidnapping, while the husband was detained on Thursday the following day.
She acknowledged that she assisted her spouse in committing the crime. She also acknowledged that she and her husband had talked about the situation and that she had given her approval because they had never anticipated a bad outcome.
He cited the woman’s statement to the police as saying that if the scheme had succeeded, it would have been the simplest method to raise the money to repurchase their home because her husband’s siblings in the UK were unwilling to assist him.
Hundeyin questioned why the woman couldn’t raise the necessary funds for the project after pointing out that she claimed to serve an average of three clients for either bone setting or stroke massaging at a cost of roughly N150,000 each person depending on the patient’s condition.
He said, however, that the couple had apologized and asked their families and the police for forgiveness.
The creator of the image claimed that the suspects counseled the general public to abstain from crime and never show any interest in a person’s family or fortune.
