Court remands man,30, for allegedly raping 11-year-old girl in Edo
On Monday, May 6, a high court in Benin City, Edo State, ruled that Osasumwen Vincent, who is accused of raping an 11-year-old child, should be placed under detention at a prison.
The suspect was charged with one count of almost certainly being rape.
But he entered a not guilty plea.
The case was later postponed to June 10 for a hearing by Justice Efe Ikponmwonba.
An 11-year-old girl was forcibly raped by the suspect at Ohovbe Quarters in the Benin Juridical Division sometime in October 2022, according to a previous statement made by the state prosecutor, Hamma Iyamu.
According to the prosecution, the suspect committed an offence contrary to section 4 and punishable under section 5 (1) of the Edo State Violence Against Persons (prohibition) law, 2021.
“The suspect committed the offence in October 2022 at Ohovbe Quarters in Benin Juridical Division and forcefully raped an 11-years old girl,” Iyamu said.
