Victor Ikpeba, a former African player of the year, asserts that the Premier League giants Chelsea are experiencing one of their worst runs in recent memory. Since the beginning of 2023, they have won just once, and Ikpeba says this is due to psychological factors.
In the Champions League, the Blues have lost to Borussia Dortmund and bottom-of-the-table Southampton by scores of 1-0 in the past week. All of this is even more worrying because Chelsea spent the most money in the January transfer window to sign a slew of young players, including Enzo Fernandez, who won the World Cup, and Mudryk, an exciting Ukrainian player. This brought their total spend to close to £400 million.
In the most recent episode of Monday Night Football, former Borussia Dortmund player and 1997 African POTY Victor Ikepba discussed the London side’s current form.
“Take a look at how Chelsea has played. Ikepba stated on Supersport, “They create chances, and you can’t fault their efforts.”
“Midweek in the Bosses association against Dortmund, they made an adequate number of possibilities and might have won Dortmund however they gave in, extraordinary individual objective from Karim Adeyemi, the youthful forward, he was splendid”
“Chelsea’s structure has to do with mental issues, since players go into the pitch to dominate matches, however when they don’t, there is no conviction any longer”
“I’m telling you as a matter of fact, I feel Graham Potter was not prepared for this Chelsea work” he further added
“At the point when you don’t dominate matches, when you go on those terrible runs, Liverpool had it, you can be bested, the present moment, Chelsea are going through that awful run.”
It was shocking to lose to Southampton; I predicted Chelsea would win all three games. However, that is the beauty of the Premier League, and that is why we love it. “The results this weekend would humble a lot of fans around the world.” Graham Potter’s team is tenth in the standings with 31 points from 23 games.
At 2:30 p.m. local time on Sunday, they take on Spurs, the top four chasers, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
