49-year-old woman commits suicide in Ogun
According to reports, Victoria Idowu, a middle-aged woman from the Magboro neighbourhood of Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area in Ogun State, hanged herself to death.
It was learned that on Sunday, April 21, 2024, the 49-year-old woman hanged herself from a ceiling fan in her bedroom.
The son of the deceased reportedly raised the alarm after coming from church and saw his mother hanging with a rope from the ceiling fan, according to command spokeswoman Omolola Odutola, who verified the event to Punch.
The PPRO further stated that police officers from the Ibafo Division went to the location where the deceased person’s body was discovered after receiving the report.
“According to the son, he came back from the church at about 1530 hours and discovered that his mother, one Mrs Idowu Victoria, ‘F’, aged 49 years of the same address, had committed suicide by hanging herself on the ceiling fan inside her room. The DPO immediately drafted men to the scene. No suicide note was found,” she said.
The PPRO disclosed further that an investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances behind the incident.
She, however, urged members of the public to always provide support to their loved ones who may be suffering from mental health challenges.
“Meanwhile, the investigation is still ongoing to unravel the circumstances behind the sad incident. Suicide is unlawful. Sufferers of mental health need more support from family members to prevent such fatality,” she added.
