4 killed After Police Sniff Out KZN Cash-In-Transit Heist Suspects Hideout In KwaMashu (Watch Video)
Friday morning in KwaMashu, north of the heart of Durban, four suspects were murdered in a gunfight with police, according to KwaZulu-Natal police.
Police suspect the deceased were responsible for a string of cash-in-transit robberies that occurred in the eThekwini neighbourhood.
A multidisciplinary team, which included officers from the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (also known as the Hawks), followed up on intelligence following the most recent cash-in-transit (CIT) heists, according to Brigadier Jay Naicker, a spokesman for the KwaZulu-Natal police.
The house near the intersection of Queen Nandi Drive and Sikhindi Road in KwaMashu, which was thought to be a safe haven for the suspects, was where law enforcement agents were directed by the intelligence, according to Naicker.
When the police made their presence known, the suspects began shooting at them. The officers had no choice but to retaliate, and a shootout followed, according to Naicker.
Four suspects sustained fatal gunshot wounds during the shootout. The suspects, two of whom are from Limpopo province, were found in possession four firearms, an AK47 assault rifle, an R5 rifle and two pistol as well as numerous rounds of ammunition.”
