In February 2022, a collision on the A46 close to Leicester claimed the lives of Saqib Hussain and Mohammed Hashim Ijazuddin.
Six other people, including her mother Ansreen, and Mahek Bukhari are accused of murder.
On Monday, the prosecution told Leicester Crown Court that the case involved “love, obsession, extortion, and ultimately cold-blooded murder.”
In beginning the retrial for the prosecution, Collingwood Thompson KC claimed that Mr. Hussain had sexually explicit recordings and pictures of Ansreen in his hands and had repeatedly tried to get in touch with her after they broke it off.
The court was informed that Mr. Hussain was “increasingly obsessive” while “professing his love for her” and “begging her” to keep the connection going.
“This anger manifested itself in an effort to blackmail Ansreen Bukhari in order to persuade her to contact him,” the lawyer claimed. The sexually graphic material of her that was evidently taken earlier was revealed in messages, and he threatened to give it to her husband and son.
