Pregnant Woman Dies In Kano Hospital After Doctors Allegedly Refused To Attend To Her Over Payment Alerts Delay (Watch Video)

Shema’u Sani Labaran, a pregnant woman, passed away at the Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital in Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State as a result of claimed medical incompetence brought on by the current naira policy issue.

The woman’s husband, Malam Bello Fancy, told Daily Trust that the physicians didn’t treat his wife for more than three hours because of a delay in the bank transfer.

Recall how the government of Kano State threatened to shut down and revoke the license of any business entity found to be accepting outdated naira notes in the state and issued warnings to marketers, supermarkets, and the general public.

 

Residents were informed that several organizations, notably hospitals that deal with emergencies and government-owned gas stations and retailers, have begun refusing the old notes.

Speaking to Freedom Radio, Malam Fancy claimed that when his wife was about to give birth, he took her to the hospital, but that because there was no POS and the hospital refused his old naira notes, they asked him to put the money into their account instead.

The doctors on duty reportedly didn’t treat his wife despite the fact that he sent the money and got debited because they insisted on waiting until they saw the alert in their account, which took over three hours.

My wife walked into the hospital from our house, but before they received the alert, the pains had doubled and she was already bleeding. Still, they didn?t touch her until after three hours when they received the alert,? he said.

“After they admitted her, they discovered that she could not deliver by herself; that she must undergo an operation. I agreed and paid the money; still through transfer. It also delayed for an additional three hours before they received the alert and operated on my wife. Shockingly, the baby was brought out dead and the mother also died.”

However, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Rahila Garba, denied the allegation, saying the claim was not the true representation of the incident.

But other patients in the hospital confirmed the incident, saying they too encountered problems with payment of hospital bills which delayed services.

Speaking with City & Crime about the incident, the spokesman of the state?s Hospital Management Board, Malam Ibrahim Abdullahi, said they received information about the incident and that they would commence an investigation.

?We are not certain about the cause of the incident, we just got the information. But we have commenced an investigation into the matter.? he added.
