Universal Music Group signee Black Dove progressed from rapping with friends in the hip hop trio APJ, to headlining the 2HotRadio competition during the BET Hip Hop awards. Although the 2015 performance in Atlanta, GA may be the hip hop songwriter’s introduction to the urban music capital of the world his ascent to stardom began years before.
Born Akeem Eseosa Raji to Nigerian parents, growing up in Atlanta, GA he was naturally attracted to liberal arts; performing in a number of school plays while writing short stories and poems in his journal. However it wasn’t until he encountered friends enthralled in a rap cypher in middle school that he became enamored with “battle rapping.” Affectionately dubbed “Night Child” based on his dark complexion, later evolved into his current stage name Black Dove. After a short stint in 2008 as a member of hip-hop trio APJ, Akeem knew he wanted to pursue a career in music.
His first solo recordings were produced in his dorm room while pursuing his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Georgia Southern University. A fan following ensued after the campus radio station 93.3 The Buzz, played a few tunes from the then unknown artist.
Following graduation in 2010, he released his first mixtape, “The Transition” followed by“Life Changes” in 2013. Although he considers himself a hip hop artist he does not like to confine his music to one category. He may rap in Nigerian over an Afro beat or give you a party track over an EDM beat. Party, socially conscious, or sex and relationships, he covers an array of topics while delivering crisp and jaw dropping bars.
Although he has performed on Ricky Smiley’s Open Mic at Frank Ski’s, Suite lounge, Apache Café, and Cloud 9 lounge. Premiering his latest single “No Wahalla” (produced by Edna) to a warm reception at the during the 2HotRadio Competition during the BET HIP HOP AWARDS, beating out hundreds of other acts in the competition is one of the biggest highlights of his career. Followed by landing a distribution deal with Universal Music Group in 2015.
Today he is working on Launching his very own production company calle Ultra-V. Educated and talented, Black Dove is a jack of all trades poised to play with the big boys .
